McCarthy spent half a decade volunteering as an Open Adoption Social Services Advocate for I.A.C. with CEO & Founder ~ Bruce Rappaport of the Independent Adoption Center ~ She advocated Open Adoption during its infancy by raising awareness to the public regarding the open adoption process and personal experience via local, state, and national outreach channels with various media platforms. McCarthy volunteered and advocated alongside the pioneer of Open Adoption Founder Bruce Rappaport, of the Independent Adoption Center in Pleasant Hill, CA.

 

McCarthy spent countless time educating, supporting, and consulting women and families in crisis, experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, unsure of their options and in support of the open adoption process. McCarthy’s main goal and focus was to help advocate and collaborate alongside Bruce with efforts to broaden awareness and conceptions about Open Adoption when this type of adoption was in its infancy and not yet well known in the United States. In 1992, McCarthy appeared as a guest on KVOS TV near Seattle, Washington on a special televised program Adoption Today with Rev.
